For this, is is important to understand where data is coming from and where it is going. Meta data is the data needed to describe origin, lineage and traceability for data.

Do you have a system in place to determine for each relevant data item where it is coming from and what it is used for?

- Is it possible to identify where data comes from and under which circumstances it was generated/recorded?
- Is it clear for what data was/is used for?
